Pet Food Assistance
Helping People and their Pets - HSCO's Pet Food Assistance Program
The Humane Society of Central Oregon has been serving the people and animals of our community for 50 years. Most people know what services and programs help the animals, but many may not realize how HSCO helps people keep their pets during difficult times.
Our shelter animals receive food through Freekibble.com. Pet food donations received from the public and businesses is distributed through our Pet Food Assistance Program. People needing temporary assistance feeding their animals receive help at the shelter and through our partnerships with HSCO and community programs. Donations are needed to meet the program demands.
Seniors of our community receive pet food through the Meals on Wheels program. Residents of La Pine, Crescent, Gilchrist and Christmas Valley receive pet food assistance through the VFW Community Kitchen and Pantry. The pantry pick’s-up pet food at HSCO and brings it back for distribution. They report that the pet food does not last long, because there’s a huge demand for it. They also add that those receiving the food really appreciate the assistance.
HSCO also partners with the Family Soup Kitchen in Bend which distributes a small amount of pet food for those needing it. Volunteers take pet food and bedding directly to the homeless camps. The HSCO is glad that extra pet food and food that cannot be fed to the shelter animals goes towards helping people keep their animals.
>> A HUGE thank you to Bend Pet Express for donating pet food for HSCO’s Pet Food Assistance Program!! <<
